I am Husam Wafaei—an author, professor, aviation professional, and Canadian Armed Forces veteran. My life's journey has taken me across continents, cultures, and professions, shaping both the person I have become and the stories I am privileged to tell.
Born in Aleppo, Syria, I have experienced the profound realities of displacement, resilience, service, and renewal. Those experiences, combined with decades of military service, leadership in aviation, and a lifelong passion for history, have inspired my writing. Whether I am recounting personal experiences or weaving historical fiction, my goal is the same: to preserve memory, honor those whose voices have faded with time, and explore the enduring strength of the human spirit.
As a professor of Aviation Technology and Ethical Leadership, I have devoted much of my career to education, critical thinking, and helping others pursue excellence with integrity. As an author, I seek to bridge history and storytelling, creating narratives that are both emotionally engaging and historically grounded.
My published works include Honourable Defection and Geography of Exile, with additional historical novels exploring the rich heritage, struggles, and perseverance of the Syriac people and the broader history of the Middle East. Through these stories, I hope readers discover not only forgotten chapters of history but also timeless truths about identity, belonging, sacrifice, and hope.
Writing, for me, is more than an artistic pursuit—it is an act of remembrance. Every story preserves a fragment of the past, every character reflects the resilience of ordinary people, and every page is an invitation to better understand ourselves through the experiences of others.
